Welcome to Høvringen, Rondane and Høvringen Fjellstue

Høvringen Fjellstue - directly translated meaning just Høvringen mountain lodge- is beautifully situated at the centre of Høvringen, the gateway to the mighty mountain area and nationalpark of ​​Rondane.

It is one of the oldest tourist businesses in Rondane. Our guest books dates all the way back to 1903, but we have welcomed guests since around 1890. Høvringen Fjellstua is at almost 1’000 meters above sea level, at the gate to Rondane Nationalpark. Here we have fantastic terrain and trails for trekking in all directions - starting just outside the door.

The origin of Høvringen Fjellstue is Ulsvoldseter. A “seter” in Norway is maybe best described as a ‘summer farm’- a seasonal facility for livestock farming in outback areas; a type of settlement that arose to utilize grazing in areas that were not suitable for year-round settlement. Farms that is usually located lower in the landscape often have a “seter” in the mountains, to take advantage of the different seasons and make the pasture last longer.

In the end of 1800 Ulsvoldseter started to welcome guests in the summer, in combination with the normal farming. This developed and after a while guests started coming both summer and winter and this became the main business. In 1935 the name was changed to Høvringen Fjellstue. Through the years the mountain lodge has been built on and rebuilt several times to appear as it does today.

Here in Fjellstua we offer accommodation in traditional surroundings in the lodge. Our guests can enjoy breakfast buffet and a three-course dinner with a fantastic view of the mountains and Gudbrandsdalen.
