The location of Høvringen Fjellstua offers great hiking terrain right outside the door. There are all kinds of hiking opportunities; easy terrain, moderate challenges, or more demanding trips for those in good shape looking for a bigger adventure.
We are happy to give good advice to those who wish to hike on their own. Pure, unspoiled and magnificent scenery in the high mountains, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
It doesn’t matter whether it is lush summer, colourful autumn with crisp air or sparkling winter; Fjellstua is a great starting point for unforgettable mountain experiences.

Experiences are better when shared. We are welcoming groups of all sizes, in the lodge we have a total of 62 beds, big lounges, dining room and a meeting room/ party hall downstairs.
Since we are conveniently located as a meeting place midway between Oslo and Trondheim, it is the perfect location to gather peoble from the different parts of Norway. Maby to hold a weekend meeting or company tour, for your birthday or even a wedding, or just to gather the whole family or some friends for a weekend in the nature with good food and relaxed atmosphere.

Autumn in Høvringen
In august we still have summer in the mountains and the magnificence of Rondane invites you to great walks.
Later on the berries ripen and you can secure your winter supply of lingonberries or blueberries on the slopes down towards Gudbrandsdalen. Although the terrain at Høvringen is mostly dry, here are also moores where you can find the rare cloudberries if you are lucky.
Towards the middle of September, the autumn colours take over and the mountains are painted in yellow, orange and red. The clear, clean autumn air provide health benefits for both body and soul. And you do feel extra lucky to be up here when the sun is shining from a blue sky and you can se the clods laying like a lid over the valley. At the end of September there may also be a light dusting of fresh snow on the highest peaks in Rondane.
Summer in Høvringen
Time for some peaceful days in the mountains? In the summer, about 150 km of well-marked trails lie ahead of you, and Rondane is known for its easy, yet varied high mountain terrain. If you want a bigger challenge, you will find ten peaks over 2000 meters in Rondane and cliffs of almost 800 meters. Here everyone can get a good nature experience on small gravel roads and well-marked trails.
If you prefer to go by bike here are also many possibilities for that. For easy acces you have many gravel roads to choose from. For example 5 km in to the mountains, towards Smuksjøseter or Putten Seter or through the forrest to Dovrehytta. For a more adventourus ride you can try some of the trails. Just remember it is not aloud to go by electric bike inside the National Park.
In the surrounding area you can also find possibilities for fishing, horse ridning, rafting, musk ox safaries and more. Here are also cultural experienses like theaters, churches and museums.
The summerseason in Høvringen Fjellstue goes normally from middle of june til the end of september. Then the fresh green leaves and grass have made their way in, and the mountain flowers have begun to bloom. We are so far north that it is light all night long and the summer evenings get a completely unique light with sunset at 11 pm.
Winter in Høvringen
When the winter is coming Høvringen is covered in a soft, white duvet and lures you in whith its open expanses. The fantastic terrain of Høvringen and Rondane gives you the best experience for tours also in winter time.
We have over 150 km with prepared ski tracks, starting just outside the door and takes you long in to the mountains. In season the snow groomer is out every day, preparing the tracks and securing you a good experience when you go out. You can follow the progress and see where the machine is going on skisporet.no.
If the weather is a bit rough you can take a tour in the forrest, where the trees give you more shelter. Or on a sunny day, you can join our snow weasel a little further in to the mountains - to get a better starting point for a longer tour or just to get some help up the first hill. Also you can join just for the unique experience of driving on snow in an original snowcat from the 1950’s.
The winterseason is normally going from the beginning of february til right after easter (middle of April).
Explore Rondane
